Why do we sweat
If you are wondering "Why do i sweat so much", you need to know this - everyone sweats! Sweat is an important mechanism to keep your body cool. When your body needs cooling (e.g. when its too hot, or when your body produces heat - like during exercise), it produces sweat that evaporates from your skin surface making the skin colder through a process called latent heat vaporization.
Without sweat, we will not be able to control our body temperature through this mechanism.
Why do I sweat so much
So everyone sweats, but do you sweat more than others? Do you sweat when there is no obvious reason for the body to cool down? Do you sweat when its actually cold?
There may be many reasons for you to sweat more than usual. Very often, it can be traced to a medical condition called Hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is a pretty common condition actually - by some estimates, more than 3% of world's population suffers from excessive sweat, i.e. Hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis is often hereditary - i.e. passed on from parents to children, though it can be caused without a genetic link as well. There are two types of hyperhidrosis - primary and secondary. Primary hyperhidrosis refers to excessive sweating that is not caused by another medical condition, nor is it a side effect of medications. Secondary hyperhidrosis is a side-effect of other underlying medical condition or of medication.
Primary hyperhidrosis is often lcoalized to specific area(s) of the body - excessive underarm sweating is the most common form of primary hyperhidrosis where the patient gets too much sweat in his/her underarm area. This form of primary hyperhidrosis is especially embarrassing as it can show underarm sweat stains, as well as cause disgusting yellow stain marks on white clothing.
